Children's Choir Q & A
Our schedules are packed, when do you rehearse? Good news! If you have time for coffee and doughnuts after the first service, they'll have time to sing God's praises. We gather directly after the first service and practice for 20 minutes - 10am to 10:20am. (A few rehearsals may run longer as necessary for service preparation.)
How old do they have to be to join? Most children start once they've entered kindergarten. The best guide should be your own child's enthusiasm along with an ability to remain attentive for 20 minute intervals. If bribery or other forms of coercion seem necessary, it may be better to wait another year or so ;-)
What if my child isn't sure this is something they want to do? Any child is welcome to come with a parent to observe rehearsals and test the waters! Children may come for a number of weeks before they make a decision, at which time we ask for a firm commitment at least through the upcoming season (i.e. Christmas or Easter).
My child loves to sing, but she can't hold a tune in a bucket. Is that okay? YES! The more they get a chance to hold the bucket, the easier it will be for them to catch the tune! Vocal development is like any other aspect of physical development - some sprout early, some sprout later. If your child enjoys worshipping the Lord through song, they are welcome in our choir.
My child is getting older but still loves to sing, is there anything musical for him to be a part of? Currently, the "maximum" age for the children's choir is 12. Many of our choir members are in the upper elementary grades, and I would LOVE to develop a Youth Choir, or a few small vocal ensembles of older voices. Right now, that depends on the number of older students that are interested. Please contact me!
